East African Community Single Tourist Visa launched
KAMPALA – UGANDA: Tourists East African countries like Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda will now need a single instead of multiple visas to take tours around the three East African countries mentioned above! This is a great push to development of tourism industry in East Africa!
This followed the launch of the East African Tourist Visa by the regional presidents in Kampala where President Museveni of Uganda, in his remarks took a swipe at the international community for contemptuously lecturing him on homosexual matters.
According to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of The republic of Uganda, the regional integration will provide formidable markets and politically strengthen East Africa. He gave an example of how the international community is pressurizing on him not to sign the anti-gay Bill into law as a move by the Western powers to belittle weak nations.
“……for us in Uganda, we are being educated on homosexuals because we are weak……! How can you start teaching an old man with a bald head on how to run his home?…… this is my home and I know how to run it—this is contempt…..” said President Museven of The Republic of Uganda.
President Museveni further added that, the strength of East African communities does not lie in the numerous tribes and religion but in the huge markets that the integration presents. Together with President Paul Kagame and Uhuru Kenyatta, they launched the tourist regional visa that will reduce bureaucracies involved in getting multiple visas. This is a great move to the development of tourism in East Africa which is one of the most important foreign Exchange earner.
Burundi and Tanzania that were formerly left out of the regional infrastructure projects, were this time represented and in their communication they noted the need for all the East African Community partner states to move on the same stage.
South Sudan that recently applied to join the East African Community, called on the regional leaders to condemn the resumption of fighting in the world’s newest nation. According to the Foreign Minister of Southern Sudan, Mr. Benjamin Marial Barnaba, over 500,000 were displaced, and over 800,000 have sought refuge in neighboring countries like Uganda, Kenya and Ethiopia.
According to President Kenyatta of the Republic of Kenya, the single regional tourist visa marks the beginning of free movement of goods and person in the regional. The Rwandan President, Mr Paul Kagame whose country spearheaded the establishment of regional single tourist visa, said its launch was important illustration of commitment to integration process.
