Rwanda is gifted by nature and a nation doted with drainage features like Lakes and rivers. Lake Kivu is Rwanda’s major lake on which boat cruise tours take place. Trips are organized from Gisenyi or Kibuye to the interior Islands on Lake Kivu and across the Rwanda Congo boarder to visit other Islands there.
A boat cruise to Napoleon Island
Boat cruise safaris are organized on Lake Kivu to Napoleon Island and then to Peace Island – there is a bar/restaurant there – as a relaxing break. And Napoleon Island is actually a lot further away than it appeared from shore. While on these Islands, expect to encounter colonies of fruit bats.
Other boat cruise trips are organized from Gisenyi to Kibuye or the reverse. The safaris to visit hot springs are also adventurous.
On Lake Ihema in Akagera National park, tourists enjoy the canoe trips to view the water-loving animals and birds hence making the safari more meaningful and enjoyable.

Mountain Climbing & Biking
Rwanda is known as a country of “a thousand hills” and a million smiles! The highest mountain is called Karisimbi which 4507m above sea level. The country has 5 major mountains and several hundreds of other hills that are very physical friendly and good to try for both mountain climbers and bikers.
Wildlife tours in partnership with project Rwanda organize thrilling mountain biking adventures for all interested individuals or groups.
For normal bikes (Hard tail with front suspension), the price in USD = $85 per person/ day without guides while for professional bikes with full suspension, the cost is USD $120 per person/day.
The tours take between 3 – 8 hours in tourism circuits around Musanze, Rubavu and Kigali. Special itineraries customized in the client’s interests can be designed with special rates. Project Rwanda professional guides can be booked after paying USD $75 per guide.
However, it should be noted that, biking safaris are booked one week in advance and fill the fitness assessment form as some level of fitness is needed.
More so, age limit is 14 years of age for bikers to enjoy such trips.

Scenic lakeside ride. Overnight by a coffee washing station with the possibility of returning to Gisenyi by boat.
2) Duration: 3 days – Congo-Nile Trail
Follow Lake Kivu between Cyangugu and Gisenyi, passing through Kibuye. Fantastic scenery!
3) Duration: 7 days
Gisenyi to Ruhengeri
Leave Gisenyi for Ruhengeri through the mountains. More that 2800m of climbing over 100km.
