Rwanda Primates Safari 2021
Golden Monkeys and Chimpanzee Tracking Safari in Rwanda
Golden monkey trekking takes place within Volcanoes National park Rwanda and at the same time of 7:00 like the gorillas. These are also rare species that are listed as endangered and Volcanoes National Park Rwanda has got two habituated troops of golden monkeys that are present for visiting by the tourists in the park, and these have 80 to 100 members each.
Golden monkeys in Rwanda also live in the bamboo vegetation towards the base of the volcanoes and their habituation has also helped to overcome their initial shyness in accepting their daily visits by the researchers and the tourists. These are also very active creatures and jump from tree to tree which is also interesting and a little had to picture. This trek is worth going for besides gorilla trekking in volcanoes national park since it’s a very delightful adventure not to miss.
Chimpanzee trekking in Rwanda is also carried out from Nyungwe National park, tracking the chimps is so different from the mountain gorilla trekking experience and these keep on moving constantly around and at high speed, jumping from tree to tree as they make noise. Chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe also starts off from three reception centres including Uwinka, Gisakura and Kitabi where the tourists meet the park rangers and the tourists are also expected to be in this place by 4:30am and by 5 am, you drive to the starting point of this trek into the forest.
Since the chimp nest each and every night, there are the trackers who also go ahead of the trekking group of finding them and communicate with the rangers. The tourists also spend 1 hour with the chimps in Nyungwe jungle and get chance to observe these primates so closely going about their own lives and see the human likelihood features and the behaviours that make them closely related. These share 98% of the DNA of humans. The chimps also communicate by way of defeating screams, the loud hoots as well as the booming hitting of the tree barks and the buttress.
The habituated chimps group in Nyungwe forest is also bigger with about 60 individuals and the greatness of the forest as well as the terrain. It also gives chances of seeing the chimps while the group in Cyamudongo forest has a smaller number of about 30 chimps which gives the most successful sightings that are given in the small size which is covered to find the chimps in any part. The chimpanzee trekking adventure is so different from that of gorilla trekking as the chimps are also running in the tree canopies and there may be running after to get up and the sightings are more irregular.
The part of Nyungwe jungle where the chimps are viewed also starts in Cyamudongo which is a 5hrs drive from Kigali. The forest is also Africa’s oldest montane forest and its home to over 13 primate species including the 500 chimps. You may pass through the forest and hear the whoops and the cackles of the L’Hoest’s and the black-faced vervet monkeys.
The most challenge with the chimps is with finding them as they are not so habituated and are always shy, and their human instincts are so strong and they show a lot of curiosity as well as the eagerness when the tourists are around. The chimp permits cost $90 which is less than that of the mountain gorillas, there are over 64 permits per day that can be issued by Rwanda for those interested in chimpanzee trekking.
