Tree planting campaign starts in Nyamagabe
Residents of Kamegeri sector in Nyamagabe district of Rwanda have embarked on a 90 days tree planting campaign in a bid for environmental conservation for future generations.
The 3 months tree planting campaign is under the theme “Planting many trees to increase output from natural resources” started on November 30th 2013 during the monthly community work.
According to the residents in Nyamagabe, trees have become the strategy in changing their social and economic life.
Félicien Twiringiyimana, a resident of Kizi cell in Kamegeri sector said that they have fully comprehended that apart from economic benefits, trees are important in the formation of rainfall and producing oxygen that supports human life, crops and live stock.
“We understand the value of trees in our life. They give us rain fall that help us grow our and we get fresh breath. Concerning money, we sell money and others charcoal and make a living….” Said Felicien.
Immaculée Umuhoza Mukarwego, the vice mayor for economic affairs in Nyamagabe district revealed that about to 30% of Nyamagabe land is made up of forests, saying residents should conserve forests to boost the economy and social life.
Tree planting campaign started on November 30th 2013 and is planned to end on February 28th 2014.
