Weekend Break to Ssese Island in Uganda
With my husband, we had a wonderful short holiday (weekend break) to Ssese Island on Lake Victoria in Uganda. We had no idea of how we can get there, and where to stay. We contacted African Jungle Adventures limited because they had offered us a 3 day wildlife safari to Murchison Falls National park. They organized for us an very affordable 3 day / 2 nights trip to Ssese island.
We set off on Friday to Entebbed to catch a ferry from Nakiwogo in Entebbe to Ssese Islands. The ferry leaves Entebbe every day at exactly 2:00pm (14:00hrs). It is a 3 hours journey from Entebbe to Ssese island (Kalangala). By 1pm (13;00hrs) we were already at the landing site, we paid 30.000 Uganda shillings per person for first class.
The journey is so fantastic, slow but sure, I was so surprised to see very dirty / green waters in the middle of the lake, it was very polluted! However, some parts of lake had very clean waters. The weather was very okay, we never got any disturbances by weather. We had a stop over at Kaya and Kakyanga Islands off-loading some people and their property. We continued with our journey and by 5:00pm (17:00hrs), we were warmly welcomed by Eric from Brovard Sands Resort beach. Together with other staff, we were transferred to the resort, we had welcome tea with roasted G.nuts, later checked into our beautiful cottage.
We loved Brovard sands resort beach, the place is very quiet, cool with very big rooms and large expansion of the beach, above all, they have a swimming pool if you do not want to swim in the lake. It is such a wonderful place while on holiday to Ssese islands (Kalangala district).
We had 2 fantastic nights with my husband, we had fun and enjoyed guided forest walks, we visited the palm tree plantations and many other factories in the area. Monkeys were every where, very friendly to people, very fresh air, not polluted like in Kampala. We had to return on Sunday, the ferry leaves Ssese by 8:00am to arrive in Entebbe by 11:00am. We found Joram from African Jungle adventures waiting for us, we drove back to Kampala.
