Ultimate gorilla safari adventure with African Jungle Adventures
I, My wife Lynn John, My Friend David Da Costa and his wife have just returned from a 4 Days gorilla safari in Rwanda’s Volcanoes national park with African Jungle Adventures limited! Our trip started on 25th of May 2014 and ended on 28th May 2014. Lubeba was our tour guide, he was always in time. We arrived at Kigali International Airport in Rwanda by Kenya Airways from Naoribi (KQ478 at 10:45am) and we received a very warm welcome from Lubega our tour guide. He drove us to a cafe in Kigali where we had some tea and a briefing about the tour. Everyone was so excited!
From here we went to Gisozi genocide memorial museum located in Kigali where over 25000 were massacred and buried in mass graves. From here we went for lunch at Kigali Serena hotel after which we started a panoramic drive to Volcanoes National park, a home for mountain gorillas in Rwanda. We arrived by early evening, checked in Mountain gorilla view lodge, we had a warm shower, relaxed, had dinner and overnight.
The next day was the day for the all along waited even, ‘gorilla tracking adventure“! This is a life changing event. We had neavy breakfast, and Lubega was already at the lodge waiting for us, we embarked on our 4×4 Land cruiser and drove to the park headquarters in Kinigi, just 15 minutes drive from our lodge. We assembled at the park headquarters from a briefing, we are divided into groups of 8 people and allocated to Sabyinyo gorilla group. The trek was not so difficult, it took us 3 hours to reach the gorillas from the trekking start point. We had photos, videos and enjoyed the presence of these gentle Apes. We returned to the lodge for a warm shower and lunch, then we took an evening excursion to the Twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo, dinner and overnight stay at Mountain gorilla view lodge.
The next day was for another gorilla trek in Volcanoes national park and this time we were given Amahoro gorilla group, we returned early for lunch and drove back to Kigali, checked in Flame Tree Village. The reason why we left immediately after gorilla tracking was because our flight KQ478 the next day was for early morning at 11:35am. We never wanted to rash in the morning to the airport.
We therefore had a relaxed morning the next day, visited some places in Kigali like local art and craft shops and markets. We sadly had to drive to the airport for our departure flight. None of us wanted to leave Rwanda. The country is very beautiful, clean and has friendly people.
